Ethos & Values
Our ethos is to develop enquiring, respectful, caring and creative minds to create a better world and empower students to be the source of their own success. We achieve this through our 7 school pillars:
We look beyond the school gates and provide our students with skills for life. We maintain strong links with our community and with local primary schools; as a result, the transition to secondary school is smooth and stress-free. A sense of belonging comes quickly and is long-lasting.
Everything at Trafalgar is based on mutual respect. Relationships between staff and students are particularly strong, creating an environment where students can focus on strong academic and personal growth, cultivate artistic talents, enhance sporting abilities and develop new skills.
Students are actively encouraged to take pride in their own and each other’s work, share in their successes and offer one another mutual support. We are proud of our School and the wonderful environment we live and learn in.
Creativity is at the core of our curriculum. It permeates everything we do. We consistently approach all aspects of work and play with energy, a fresh eye and an open mind.
Resilience is fostered at Trafalgar – both in the class room and on the sporting field. As a result Trafalgar students become strong and spirited individuals, developing a determination to achieve their personal best. They have the flexibility to adapt and the courage to persevere.
At Trafalgar, we aim to equip our students with the confidence to have a go at anything and the motivation to pursue their goals. We strive to pass on a life-long love of learning. We are ambitious on behalf of our students – seeking to instil inspiration and independence.
This is the element the students said they wanted to add to our Pillars. Our School is smaller than most secondary schools so it is easy for staff to know every student. Our House System, Student Council and sports teams all work together to support the family atmosphere created by our unique school community.
At the Trafalgar School at Downton we are committed to serving our community and surrounding areas. We recognise the multi-faith and ever-changing nature of the United Kingdom. We also understand the vital role we have in ensuring that groups or individuals within the school are not subjected to intimidation or radicalisation by those wishing to unduly or illegally influence them.
