Our Vision for Young People
By the time they leave our school our young people will be able to communicate effectively. They will be able to solve mathematical and scientific problems. They will be able to express themselves creatively and imaginatively. They will have a strong sense of self, a sense of others and a sense of place. They will make informed choices that effect positively on their own wellbeing. They will ask questions, be reflective and adaptive; capable of thinking and acting for themselves and ready to join forces with others to achieve a goal. They will be positive in their mind-set and willing to face up to a challenge. They will be active and healthy in mind and in body. Our students will have a keen care for their environment and feel a close connection with their natural world. Our young people will understand what is right and what is wrong, and stand up for equality and human rights. They will appreciate other cultures and traditions. Our young people will be thoughtful, caring and active citizens making a difference to their community and to society.

Welcome
The Trafalgar School at Downton is an incredibly special place serving its community on the edge of Salisbury and the New Forest. At The Trafalgar School every individual matters irrespective of background and ability. We believe in the unlimited potential of every child and have developed a well-deserved reputation for delivering high-quality teaching and learning within a caring and nurturing environment. This results in some exceptional outcomes for our students – both academic and more holistically.
Great people, great teaching and great outcomes are the founding pillars of our school as we strive to empower young people towards a life fulfilled. Our collective Vision for Young People is what drives us and our values of strength and spirit, giving, determination, compassion, enthusiasm, trust, respect and open-mindedness are what define us.
We are a warm and happy school that works in partnership with our students and their families. The way we do things at Trafalgar is incredibly important to us. The emphasis on cultivating strong relationships, developing independence and having fun allows our students to flourish in an environment that is focused on learning. Our students have an array of opportunities beyond the curriculum. Music, Drama, Art, Technology and Sport provide our students with a real breadth to their learning which is complemented with a thriving extra-curricular programme. We set high standards; respect and hard work are expected, but students are encouraged to make the most of every opportunity and to have a great deal of fun along the way.
At our heart we are a learning community and that applies to our staff and our school as much as it does to our students. We believe in continuous improvement and, as a relentlessly ambitious school, we are constantly reflecting on our practice and seeking to develop our provision.
Our school is, however unique, and no website can full capture the spirit of Trafalgar. The only was to get a feel for what we believe in and how we do things is to come for a visit and meet the people that make our school such a special place.
